NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, a planet-looking for the satellite that launched a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket last April, has discovered three new worlds that orbit a nearby dwarf star that’s each smaller and more comfortable than our own Sun.
The newfound planets range in measurement and temperature, however, are all larger than Earth and with the next temp on common — which are calculated only based on their distance from the star they orbit, and its power output, without factoring in any atmospheric results because it’s not but recognized whether or not they have atmospheres in any respect. On the low finish, there’s TOI 270 d, which has a median temp of 150 F — nearly three times Earth’s personal.
Both TOI 270 d, the most distant from its own system’s central star, and TOI 270 c, its nearest neighbor, are considered primarily gaseous and most closely resemble Neptune in our personal Solar System. These aren’t equal, nonetheless, as they’re much smaller, and researchers at NASA say they’re genuinely extra doubtless new types of planets not seen anywhere in our solar system.
